K2M launches new deformity spinal system in the U.S.

K2M Group Holdings recently announced the U.S. commercial launch of the MESA 2 Deformity Spinal System, a pedicle screw system designed to address complex spinal pathologies.

The new system features the next-generation MESA 2 screw — a top-loading, low-profile screw that offers a dual-lead thread pattern for fast insertion. The system also includes new zero-torque technology, allowing surgeons to one-step lock without torsional stress being applied to the spine. Additionally, both deformity polyaxial and uniplanar screws are available, according to a company press release.

The MESA 2 Deformity Spinal System offers an upgrade to the company’s Cricket technology, named Quicket, which allows for rod reduction technology that provides quick on and off capabilities. Surgeons can also correct the spine in all three planes, according to the press release.

The company announced in January that it had obtained 510(k) clearance from the FDA to market the system.
