Gustave was born in the Belgian Congo and won his first award at the annual art show in Elizabethville, South Africa when he was 13. His formal education was with Marcel Pire, and he continued his studies at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town, South Africa. He also studied at the Institut National Superieur des Beaux Arts in Belgium. He was awarded the “Medaille de Vermeil” and the Diploma of Honor in the International Show of Art in Paris. He organized a one-man show during the Brussels 1958 World's Fair. His paintings, watercolors, lithographs, and etchings are in collections around the world.
