The upcoming U.S. Psychiatric and Mental Health Congress Conference will fulfill this year’s theme of “mental wellness” through a plethora of offerings, including educational sessions, networking events, poster presentations, exhibitions and more
The conference will begin Thursday, October 20 and conclude Monday, October 24 in San Antonio.
Psych Congress is intended for psychiatrists, primary care physicians, psychologists, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals who see patients with mental health disorders.
Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman, founders of the Canadian musical choir Choir! Choir! Choir!, will deliver the kickoff keynote address on Thursday, October 20.
Scientific and educational sessions will cover topics such as advanced psychopharmacology, addiction, advances in pediatric and geriatric psychiatry, and more.
The conference will offer a six-credit preconference session to attendees who arrive a day early and attend the session titled, “Psychopharmacology Reality Check: Changes You Can Make on Monday.” The session aims to increase attendees’ knowledge of treatment strategies and refocus their use of psychopharmacology in clinical practice.
“I’m quite excited about the focus this year on mental wellness,” conference co-chair Rakesh Jain, MD, MPH, of Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, Midland, Texas, told Healio.com/Psychiatry in an interview. “In mental health, you want to progress all the way from mental illness to mental wellness so to focus on one or the other would be inappropriate. This year, we’ve established a well-balanced focus on both how to help individuals recover from mental illness and how to help them achieve mental wellness.” – by Amanda Oldt
