Donald Zimmerman, MD, is head of the Division of Endocrinology at Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago, and professor of pediatrics at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, also there.
He joined the staff at Children's Memorial Hospital in October 2002 to lead the hospital's Division of Endocrinology. Dr. Zimmerman is originally from Chicago and returned after his time at the Mayo Medical School where he was a professor of pediatrics, served as a consultant in the Department of Pediatrie and Adolescent Medicine, and chaired the Division of Pediatrie Endocrinology and Metabolism.
After earning a degree in philosophy at Harvard University, he attended medical school at the University of Illinois, and then completed internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He also completed a fellowship in internal medicine there and is board certified in that area. He then went to Rochester, Minnesota where he did fellowships in adult and pediatrie endocrinology at the Mayo Clinic. He also did a pediatrie residency there. Dr. Zimmerman has research interests in the areas of thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, and pituitary disease.
