Enrique M. Ostrea, Jr.. with Cleofe J. Chavez and Joan C. Stryker. THE CARE OF THE DRUGDEPENDENT PREGNANT WOMAN AND HER INFANT Lansing, Mich.: Michigan Department of Public Health, 1979. 83 pp., $1.25.
The problem of maternal drug abuse during pregnancy (of both narcotic and nonnarcotic agents) is encountered by virtually all providers of obstetrical and neonatal care in the United States.
In this easily readable monograph, Drs. Ostrea, Chavez, and Stryker have consolidated most of the important facts concerning care of the drug-dependent gravida and her offspring into four sections, each containing an ample number of useful tables. One important shortcoming is the omission of any mention of the deleterious effects of tobacco on the fetus.
