Eye care employees value health insurance

One-fourth of ophthalmic professionals consider health/medical insurance to be the most important workplace benefit, according to iHireOptometry.

Recruiting firm iHire surveyed optometrists, ophthalmologists, opticians and optometric technicians asking, “What workplace benefit matters most to you?”

Participants selected their preferred option from the list of workplace benefits including compensation/bonuses, health/medical insurance, financial/retirement plans, vacation and paid time off, flexible scheduling, employee discounts, professional development and training, state-of-the-art equipment and technologies, and health/medical insurance.

Compensation/bonuses and flexible scheduling were the runners-up behind the 26.5% who chose health/medical insurance. According to iHire’s report, finding a way to offer flex hours and schedules that work for you and your employees will not only help in hiring new team members, but improve job satisfaction of current employees.

Of the ophthalmic professionals who took the survey, 10.8% wrote in a response, with some saying, “all of the above,” and others saying good hourly pay rate, fun and relaxed environment, tuition assistance, job security, competent support staff and a respectful environment.

Optometrists should ensure they provide their employees with a comprehensive health/medical insurance plan, iHire said in the press release, “as it may be the first thing potential new hires consider before joining your team.”
