ABB Optical: Multifocals propel contact lens sales

Practices that provide more multifocal fittings are growing their total contact lens portfolios faster, according to a press release from ABB Optical identifying optical trends.

ABB Optical multifocal contact lens sales are up 17% through the first half of the year, fueled by growth in daily disposable multifocals, which are up over 90% year-to-date, the company reported.

Those that have at least 15% of their total contact lens revenue in multifocals are growing their total contact lens portfolios nearly 60% faster than the market.

Furthermore, a multifocal fit typically drives a 52% greater dollar margin than the equivalent spherical fit, according to the release.

“Manufacturers have accelerated their pace of innovation when it comes to multifocals, which has fueled significant growth,” Aaron See, ABB Optical group vice president of marketing, said in the release.
