Honest answers to tough questions are on the agenda at the Open Your Eyes to Private Equity symposium, a new feature preceding OSN New York 2019.
The symposium, which is free for OSN New York attendees, will be held Nov. 14, and the meeting will follow Nov. 15-17, both at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel.

“The OSN New York Meeting is a broad update meeting for the comprehensive ophthalmologist. All subjects are covered by an experienced faculty with an emphasis on current, clinically relevant information,” OSN Chief Medical Editor Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, said.

Highlights of the program include updates in each subspecialty, with opportunities to interact with faculty, as well as the return of the “increasingly popular” Disruptive Innovations symposium, according to Lindstrom, who is the meeting’s program director.
“We have been running this meeting for over 25 years, incrementally improving it every year in response to attendee recommendations. This is a meeting packed with clinical pearls in a great destination city,” Lindstrom said.
Open Your Eyes to Private Equity
Lindstrom also serves on the planning committee for the private equity symposium, which practice management expert John B. Pinto will moderate.
“Open Your Eyes to Private Equity will provide expert insight on whether ophthalmologists should partner or sell to a private equity investor,” Lindstrom said. “Experts, including ophthalmologists, industry executives, investment bankers, brokers and consultants, will be available to address specific questions during the Tough Questions and Honest Answers portions of the meeting.”
Closing the program will be special guest speaker Guy Adami of CNBC’s Fast Money, whose talk will focus on “The bigger picture: A macro perspective of the private equity impact on your business, the ophthalmic industry and the U.S. economy.”
The symposium is “a comprehensive review of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the private equity entrance into ophthalmology, focused on the practicing physician,” Lindstrom said. “Experiences of practicing ophthalmologists who have partnered with private equity, both positive and negative, will be presented.” – by Scott Buzby
