William L. Rich III, MD, announces retirement

William L. Rich III, MD, will retire this month, he said in a letter to patients posted to the Northern Virginia Ophthalmology Associates website.

Rich, who began the practice in 1976 with Thomas Frey, MD, served as president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2016.

His colleagues, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians and technicians, will continue to care for his patients after his retirement, he said in the letter.

“Every day I see a patient whom I have taken care of for close to 40 years and three generations,” Rich wrote. “These interactions have been incredibly rewarding to me. I will miss those daily interactions and the shared trust that has developed over all these years.”
