SLACK Incorporated journals recognized in Nursing Journal Hall of Fame

SLACK Incorporated, an independent STM publisher of leading health care journals, is pleased to announce the inclusion of two of its nursing journals, Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health Services and Journal of Nursing Education, in the International Academy of Nursing Editors’ Nursing Journal Hall of Fame. The International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE) has established the Nursing Journal Hall of Fame to recognize scholarly nursing journals that have 50 or more years of continuous publication and sustained contributions to nursing knowledge. The inaugural cohort of 13 journals were inducted at the 37th Annual Meeting of INANE on Tuesday, August 7th.

The Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health Services, now in its 56th year, is a peer-reviewed, monthly MEDLINE/PubMed-cited journal (2017 Impact Factor .608) for psychosocial and mental health nurses in a variety of community and institutional settings. The Journal provides invaluable articles on psychopharmacology, mental health care of older adults, addictive behaviors and diagnoses, and child/adolescent disorders and issues. A highlight of the publication is its monthly CNE articles, which allow readers to earn CNE credits online at cme.healio.com. Shirley A. Smoyak, PhD, RN, FAAN, is Editor Emerita of the Journal. Mona Shattell, PhD, RN, FAAN has been the editor of the publication since 2017.

The Journal of Nursing Education, also cited in MEDLINE/PubMed (2017 Impact Factor 1.185), is a monthly, peer-reviewed journal publishing original articles for nurse educators in a multitude of settings for approximately 57 years. The Journal enhances the teaching-learning process, promotes curriculum development, and stimulates creative innovation and research in nursing education. Janis P. Bellack, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, leads the Journal, with Christine A. Tanner, PhD, RN, FAAN and the late Rheba de Tornyay, EdD, FAAN as Editors Emeriti.

The 13 inaugural journals chosen for the Hall of Fame are international in scope and cumulatively represent 978 years of scholarly publication in nursing. The journals are a cross-section of professional nursing practice, research, education, and leadership, and demonstrate depth in nursing excellence and scholarship through the published literature.

Funding for the inaugural awards was provided by Dr. Smoyak, a longtime INANE member.

“We are honored to be recognized in a cohort of journals that have so obviously impacted the literature, as well as generations of nurses in the specialty,” said Stephanie Arasim Portnoy, Senior Vice President, Health Care Books and Journals for SLACK Incorporated. “We thank our editors for their long-standing commitment to moving the profession forward within our pages and look forward to our continued partnership with them in that effort for many more decades to come.”
