Some Special Nurse...The Geriatric Nurse

Marcie Janz, APNP

Abstract

Minister, teacher, healer, friend,

You know the face of age.. .of life.

Beautiful.. .brave,

Sometimes the child

In a world of old.

Sometimes the wisdom of a sage.

You realize their life now lies in you,

Their world gone by.

Understanding the face...

You are some special nurse.

How you enliven the spirit

In that fragile shell,

And bring dignity to weakness.

How you taste their lives.

What an art!

To see the ghost of God on every face

The reason to serve.

To watch the faded body droop

Like a petal,

To hold the hand

Of the soul slipping away.

Minister, teacher, healer, friend,

How we appreciate

The splendor of your patience and love.

Where did you learn to understand

That the old exist

So we can become better?

What a special nurse!

It is late...The times are changing.

What a challenge...

To take that special care into the new century.

Your face...tired...brave...aging...beautiful!

It is late.

Minister, teacher, healer, friend,

Your shift is ending.

Wishing for you...

The face,

The touch,

The love and patience

Of another special nurse.

A geriatric nurse,

Some special nurse!…
