Learn to Effectively Discuss Chronic Pain

Abstract

Effective communication between physician and patient is important to the success of pain management strategies. OrthoMcNeil Pharmaceuticals developed a brochure entitled, "Questions You Should Ask About Pain & Pain Treatment" to help patients with chronic pain communicate information about their conditions as well as concerns they may have about taking pain medications.

Chronic pain is persistent pain that lasts for months. Common types are low back pain, arthritis, and recurring headache. Several types of prescription medications relieve chronic pain, although not all drugs work on all people. Pain medications can cause side effects, and some can be more serious than others.

The brochure is available at no charge by calling (800) 665-0778, or by mailing a written request to Chronic Pain Brochure Request, PO Box 644, Fairview, NJ 070229201. Bulk copies are available at no charge in quantities of 25, 50, or 100 by faxing a request to (800) 6650768.…
