RESOURCE AGENCIES FOR GRANDPARENTS

Abstract

Financial concerns and the need for additional financial support are frequently identified as a concern by grandparents. Nurses are in a unique position as advocates in assisting grandparents in locating possible funding resources. Organizations to contact for grandparent support:

* American Association for Retired Persons (AARP) Grandparent Information Center can provide resources for grandparents by calling (202) 434-2296.

* Local Department of Human Services

Explain the availability and eligibility requirements of kinship care funding and public/medical assistance for grandchildren or children. * Local utility companies Provide information and applications for assistance in paying utilities. * Community agencies Help seniors, children, and families by locating other local resources.…
