Elder Care Information Updated

The Merck Manual of Geriatrics is now available in a new second edition. First published in 1990, the first edition has become a widely used book of geriatrics. According to co-editor Mark H. Beers, MD, the latest edition "contains new chapters on the role of the pharmacist and nurse, together with indepth discussions of issues such as living alone, elder abuse, and the older driver."

Besides detailing the last 5 years* developments in geriatric medicine, the new, 1,516-page edition has been edited for easier reading and reorganized for more rapid access to information. Also included are special reference guides to laboratory values and other data unique to the older population.

The Merck Manual of Geriatrics is available for $25.00 by calling (800) 659-6598.

Locating Wandering Residents Quickly and Accurately

Code Alert announces its new Graphic Staff Alert Panel which helps locate wandering residents or patients. When a wandering incident occurs, an alarm sounds and a red LED lights up on a customized floor plan of your facility to visually and audibly alert staff of the exact location of the event.

The Graphic Staff Alert Panel is typically located at a central location where staff can easily see and hear it. The nurse is able to see the exact location and retrieve the patient.
