Portable Oximeter Monitors Oxygen Saturation and Pulse Rate
Medical Systems International Corp. has introduced the SpO2-5001 Pulse Oximeter, its newest diagnostic product for medical care.
The SpO2-5001 is a high-performance, low-cost pulse oximeter that provides accurate oxygen saturation and pulse rate readings for health care professionals. Weighing 9 oz, the oximeter is portable and fits easily into the palm of a hand. The device will store SpO2 and pulse rate readings for up to 99 patients, after which a hard copy can be printed using the unit's optional printer for documentation. Another option allows the user to print out every 5 seconds in real time for monitoring purposes.
The SpO2 and pulse rate values are displayed in large, easy-to-read LEDs. Pulse strength is also displayed using a LED bar graph. The oximeter can be used with various probes on any patient, from neonates to adults.

Faff Prevention System Electronically Monitors Patients/Residents
The Posey Sitter Fall Prevention System, available from the J.T. Posey Company, is an electronic monitoring system that helps prevent falls in settings where continuous patient/ resident surveillance is not possible. Each system consists of a control unit and a sensor pad. As patients/residents lift their weight off the sensor (as in a fall or exit), the alarm rings to alert the staff. When the Posey Sitter is connected to the nurse call station, the patient's room light and the nurse call station signal are also activated.
The Posey Sitter Fall Prevention System is easily installed and adapts to any existing nurse call system. Designed to eliminate false alarms, the portable, battery-operated unit poses no danger of shock to an incontinent patient and can be moved from bed to bed or attached to a mobile wheelchair. The sensor pad is reusable.
In addition to providing an immediate warning of a potential fall, the system can be used as an assessment tool in determining the appropriate fall prevention protocol for a patient/resident. Prior to using the system, each facility should create policies and procedures regarding its use.

Arm and Leg Tank Systems Help Statt With Patient Hygiene
The Arjo-Century Arm and Leg Tank Systems offer effective patient care and hygiene, and improved staff efficiency for hospitals, nursing homes, and doctors' offices.
The Whirlpool Arm and Leg Tank System features a built-in hydro outlet that allows directional control of the hydro flow, variable flow control for adjusting water pressure at the hydro outlet, aeration control for regulating the degree of water agitation, and control levers for operating the pop-up drain and pump motor. The tank and control panels are made of stainless steel.
The Hydrosound Arm and Leg Tank System shares the same features as the Whirlpool unit, but is instead equipped with Arjo-Century's patented hydrosound technology. Hydrosound uses ultrasonic energy in water at a low kilohertz frequency, combining water and sound to create microscopic, vibrating bubbles and a gentle, skinscrubbing cleansing action called "microstreaming." The Hydrosound control panel is wall mounted and offers flexibility in selecting the cleaning action's duration and intensity.
Each system includes a wall-mounted control panel that features a patient shower spray, a thermostat mixer, a built-in disinfection system and safety latch that secures the disinfection system, and viewing ports to allow visual monitoring of both active and reserve supplies of disinfectant stored in the panel. In addition, the Arm and Leg Tank System fully integrates with the company's height-adjustable Lift Hygiene Chair.

Grip Handle and Tape Form Customized Grips on Tools, Utensils
The Persona Grip Tape and Grip Handle are two new products from Maddak Inc. designed to form customized grips on a wide range of utensils, tools, and crutches.
The patented grip tape uses a new plastic technology that provides a method of creating a customized hand grip on any implement. The tape is supplied in high-visibility yellow, 1 in ? 1/8 in ? 18 in, with a peel-back adhesive on the inside surface that sticks to the implement. Excess material can be trimmed with a knife. The grip tape can be easily wrapped around the implement, heated in hot water, cooled to the touch, and molded with the user's hand. If a change in grip is desired, the tape can be reheated and remolded.
The grip handle is a round handle molded of two different density plastic materials. The white inner core remains rigid, while the outer, clear material can be molded to the individual's hand, using the same procedure as that used with the tape. The grip handle is 4 3/8 in long with a center hole of 0.840 in. Tool and utensil handles may be cemented into the grip center hole or secured by potting with epoxy or other fillers.
