Journal of Gerontological Nursing

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

THREE WISE PHRASES

Sandy Kinnan

Abstract

Ib the Editor:

While writing a paper for my clinical nurse specialist course, I picked up and read (cover to cover) my October 1991 issue of the Journal of Gerontological Nursing. I was touched by the editorial, "Three Wise Phrases: Thank You/ 1 Love You/ and 'Goodbye.' "

Thank you for printing a piece that reflects on and is written about the ordinary experiences of living and dying that are sometimes taken for granted. Ms Burggraf was able to humanize the ordinary and capture the sense of mystery and wonder that emanates from and gives meaning to living and dying.

Thank you for the opportunity to reflect once again on three simple, powerful phrases. The heartfelt closing paragraph is full of wisdom and has enriched my living today.…
