Abstract

Wheelchair Cushions Help Improve Posture and Balance

Bye-Bye Decubiti therapeutic air cushions are available in double compartmental models to fit most wheelchairs. These new cushions retain all the exceptional pressure-equalization and ventilation qualities of the standard single compartmental BBD line while offering additional adjustability and gentle firmness for patient valance and stability. Inflatable by mouth or hand inflator, each section may be inflated to suit individual posture and general comfort requirements.

The new cushions are made of 1 00% natural rubber. At 2 Ib, they are easy to handle, symmetrically designed, and may be used either side up. Smooth and easy to clean, they remain fresh and odorless during use. They may be used in the bed, bathtub, shower, or car. The fully enclosing, fitted covers of either heavy, double-knit fabric or synthetic fleece are cool, completely washable, and long lasting.

Adhesive Wafer Helps Protect Peristomal Skin

The ConvaTec Durahesive Wafer with Sur-Fit Flange has been developed for people with difficult-to-manage stomas. This product is specially designed to protect peristomal skin from irritating effluent, and can be worn for an extended period.

The wafer with flange is part of the ConvaTec Sur-Fit two-piece system. The entire system works to prevent skin irritation because the flanged adhesive wafers, once applied to the skin, need not be removed every time a pouch is changed. Pouches are easily snapped onto and removed from the stationary, flanged wafer. Because the wafer is not removed with each change of pouch, skin irritation that can result from frequent application and removal of the wafer is minimized.

This system is particularly effective for people who have urostomies or difficultto-manage stomas because the "turtlenecking" action of the wafer allows it to swell to varying degrees around the stoma to help form a secure seal. Because the wafer is also flexible and lightweight, with a low-profile flange, it fits comfortably and discreetly under clothing.

Sharps Cabinet Improves Safety

Devon Industries, Ine, announced a new sharps collections container designed to fit inside the most common sharps collection cabinets.

This sharps cabinet insert promotes user safety by eliminating multi-step, two-handed sharps disposal. It allows easier fill level visualization than current models on the market, thus helping avoid overfilling and potential needlesticks.

This new model also features a carrying handle for additional safety in transporting filled containers. Even with the increased safety and new features, this product is economically priced.

Blood Needle Adapter Developed

Ryan Medical, Ine, has introduced the Saf-T Clik shielded blood needle adapter to help reduce needlestick injuries. Saf-T Clik protects the user with a shield that slides forward and locks over the contaminated needle. Then, the entire device is disposed.

The shield el iminates the cause of almost 70% of needlestick injuries occurring during transport, needle recapping, needle removal, and disposal. The disposability eliminates the potential contamination source of reusable blood tube holders.
