Abstract

Patient Lifter/Walker

The American Ambulator Co. , Inc. , has introduced a revolutionary new patient lifter and walker called the Ambulator. Designed to eliminate the strains associated with patient-handling and to help patients to exercise themselves with minimal staff assistance, the Ambulator is ideally suited for a variety of purposes.

While minimizing risk of injury to patients or staff, the Ambulator can easily be used to lift, transpon, and exercise patients who previously required the assistance of several people to be mobilized. One person can safely manage even the largest of patients, tferfect for home use, the Ambulator easily maneuvers through doorways, halls, commode areas and wheelchairs.

Powered by an easily recharged battery, the Ambulator can be operated for a full week on one 8-hour charge. Its heavy-duty power arm is able to lift over 800 lbs. with just the touch of an electrical finger-switch.

The Ambulator is completely adjustable for the patient's height and width and comes with a variety of features such as an adjustable I.V. pole, oxygen bottle holder, and an accessories tray for patient convenience.

Wheelchair Seat

Many wheelchair users have difficulty sitting comfortably while others slump forward in their chairs unable to remain in position. Maddak solves these problems with the Helpmate™ Wheelchair Seat. Fast Steam Sterilizer

Midmark Corporation, Versailles, Ohio is now producing the Ritter M-7 SpeedClave®. The UL-Listed M-7 SpeedClave is an economical, self-contained steam sterilizer for physicians' , dentists', and podiatrists' offices plus clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and labs. It sterilizes instruments, linen packs, and glassware quickly and economically.

No plumbing or special wiring is required as the M-7 uses distilled or demineralized water in its own reservoir to create steam. The controls are all on the front and are easy to read and operate. Special safety features include a door interlock that prevents opening while pressurized and a low water cutout switch that turns the M-7 off if there is not sufficient water present. The operator controls both temperature and cycle time.

The M-7 takes up very little counter space; three stainless steel trays are included.

A I/ heimer 's Lab lest

Senetek PLC (NASDAQ:SNTKY) has released to European Drug Reference Laboratories the world's first Alzheimer's disease laboratory diagnostic test. This test was developed by sponsoring and collaborating with scientists at the Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities (IBRK an arm of the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and Immuno-Product Industries who developed the test format under contract. The diagnostic test is also being distributed to a drug reference laboratory in Japan, with some restrictions.

The clinical data obtained from the diagnostic testing of spinal fluid from Alzheimer's disease patients in Europe will extend the preliminary clinical results to a larger patient population in a practicing clinic environment. The information gathered will also be used to provide a basis for submission to the drug regulatory authorities in the United States and other countries where such submissions are required.

The Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities, Staten Island, under the direction of Dr Henry M. Wisniewski, is a research organization recognized for the quality of its Alzheimer's disease and other brain disease research. Its sponsored funds are managed by the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Ine, Albany, which is affiliated with the New York State Department of Mental Hygiene and has licensed Senetek to commercialize the Alzheimer's disease test worldwide.

Contoured Urine Leg Bag

Coloplast, Ine has introduced the first urine bag specifically designed to provide the user with extra freedom, independence, and confidence - setting a new standard in comfort. The Conveen® Contoured Leg Bag is an advanced new concept in urine drainage.

Unlike conventional bags, it is made up often internal chambers, which prevents noise and makes it possible for the bag to curve and fit the thigh or calf, no matter what the shape or size. The bag is also fitted with a fabric backing that absorbs perspiration and allows it to evaporate.

Its new closure is completely secure and easy to open and close without contaminating fingers with urine, even when hand or finger movements are impaired. A reassuring audible click lets the user know that it's safely closed.

The bags have double welds for double security and a soft tubing that can be cut to any length, allowing the bag to be worn in the most comfortable and discreet position. The tubing also rotates on a special connector to eliminate kinks and twists. Conveen Velcro Straps ensure thai the bags stay securely and comfortably in place without slipping.

Bedside Central Venous Catheter

Davol Ine has developed the Hohn® Bedside central venous catheter for patients requiring short or intermediate term central venous access.
