Abstract

Flotation Mattress

Jefferson Industries, Ine introduces the new, improved Econo-Float II Water Flotation Mattress, the inexpensive yet effective approach to the problem of decubitus ulcers. The Econo-Float II can be the treatment of choice in over 80% of decubitus ulcer cases as well as a key to a total preventive program.

By using the principle of flotation and displacement, the Econo-Float II Water Flotation Mattress reduces and distributes pressure over the patient's bony prominences, while it supports the body evenly over a greater surface area. The Mattress helps to curtail perspiration and so reduces the possibility of skin maceration.

The Econo-Float II is simple and lightweight, so it can be installed on top of a regular hospital bed mattress. It can offer full body flotation support while its internal baffles reduce water motion. The Econo-Float II can be ready to use in as little as ten minutes, as it has its own built-in fill level indicator and only one wide-mouth, screw-on-type valve to fill.

Econo-Float II is also made from a remarkable new vinyl formulation that is not only 50% thicker for durability, but is also more stretchable, softer, and easier to clean. It is so durable that the warranty has been doubled to a full 12 months.

Econo-Float II is available at a $39 list price.

Musculoskeletal Testing and Rehabilitation System

Cybex, the recognized leader in isokinetic rehabilitation, performance testing, sports medicine, and fitness technology takes another step forward with the new, computerized Cybex 340 System.

The Cybex 340 System combines improved mechanical design with outstanding computer capabilities. The result is unmatched clinical efficiency, accuracy of measurement, data management, reproducibility, and safety.

The new computer system offers a 30-megabyte hard disk capable of storing thousands of pages of patient information. A 60-megabyte streamer tape backs up the hard disk. A 1.2-megabyte streamer tape backs up the hard disk. A 1.2-megabyte floppy disk allows use of standard IBM-compatible software.

The software has seven built-in system procedure and operating modes for data management, graphic reporting, and display capabilities. Eighteen different pattern test codes cover shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle patterns. Standard and individualized exercise and testing protocols can be stored and quickly recalled.

The face of the 340's clinical work station features a diagnostics panel. A power sequencer protects the system from damage caused by power surges, controls power distribution, reduces stress to components, and automatically backs up daily records and files. An optional power supply which cannot be interrupted keeps the system operating during sudden power losses.

A Mitsubishi® Enhanced Color Graphics Monitor swivels and adjusts to accommodate the clinician, or to provide visual feedback to motivate the patient.

The Cybex 340 Dynamometer is still the only isokinetic measurement technology proven accurate by independent research. For added stability, the dynamometer features safe, visible, mechanical range limiting, and enhanced soundproofing for even quieter operation. Its Digital Optical Encoder enables accurate, trouble-free operation, and greatly simplifies test set-up procedure.

Wetness Indicator

Whitestone Products has added a wetness size indicator to UltraShield® Disposable Incontinence Briefs. A quick glance tells you if the brief is wet. The indicator is effective for both male and female patients. It looks different on each size, making it easy to recognize and locate correct size.

UltraShield® Briefs offer complete protection for moderate to severe incontinence. Stretch-gathers around legs give extra protection against leaking. UltraShield® can also be used by those with bowel problems.

The briefs are available in three sizes: small (for waist sizes up to 31 in.); medium (for waist sizes up to 44 in.); and large (for waist sizes up to 58 in.). They are packaged in attractive poly bags or bulk.
