NEWS UPDATE

GAMES AID MEMORY-LOSS PATIENTS

Abstract

A series of games specifically developed for elderly people with Alzheimer's disease and other disorders that cause memory loss is being produced and marketed for the first time across the country by ELDERG AMES.

With more than 4 million Americans afflicted with severe memory loss or sensory impairment, ELDERG AMES has pioneered the creation of six simple, inexpensive games designed to stimulate memory and thought. The games jog the memory, encourage reminiscing and, in some cases, relax the agitated.

Developed in consultation with gerontology professionals and therapists, the games have been tested to ensure that they provide rewarding experiences that are challenging without being threatening.

Among the games currently available are the Spinner Games Assortment offering ten can't-lose games that use thematic overlays to create word and picture associations; Eldertrivia with over 250 carefully researched, memory-teasing questions based on nostalgic events; Memory Joggers featuring decks of oversized, easy-to-see, illustrated flash cards pegged to specific, thematic categories including transportation, sports, and tools of the trade; and Feel 4N Fold made of different textured fabrics to permit repetitive folding action, a common ^characteristic of Alzheimer's patients.
