Ayerst Laboratories has responded to the popularity of Posture®, its highpotency calcium supplement made of calcium phosphate, by introducing a new dosage and a vitamin D formula.
Posture now comes in the original, high-potency 600 mg size and smaller, 300 mg tablets. The new formula, Posture-D, also comes in two strengths: 600 mg tablets, each with 125 IUs of vitamin D; and 300 mg tablets, providing 62.5 IUs of vitamin D.
"In formulating Posture-D, we have filled the need of women who require a vitamin D supplement," said Frank Montemurro, vice-president of marketing and sales-consumer products at Ayerst Laboratories.
A panel of experts, recently convened by the National Institutes of Health, suggested that women should ingest 1 ,000 to 1 ,500 mg of calcium per day, enhancing their diet with calcium supplements, if necessary, to help reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis.
"The Posture products are different," said Nancy Day Adams, MD, member of the Osteoporosis Prevention Program and assistant professor of medicine at The University of Connecticut Health Center. "Calcium phosphate may not produce gas, and the tablets contain no calories, starch, sugar, or preservatives."
Posture and Posture-D are available in pharmacies and food stores.
Announcing EZ CARE - a better, more comfortable, and more complete phosphate enema design. With EZ CARE, the Medical Care Products Division of TR Associates introduces a unique collapsible bottle, designed to reduce patient trauma and make selfadministration easier and more effective.
Gone are the patient discomfort, embarrassment, incomplete product usage, leakage, and bulky disposal that characterized enemas of the past. Each ready-to-use EZ CARE bottle contains 4.5 fluid ounces (133 ml) of the wellestablished sodium biphosphate, sodium phosphate solution.
Whereas conventional bottles typically expel only 70% of their contents, the unique EZ CARE syringe-type action expels 95%, allowing for complete relief and thorough cleansing of the lower bowel. And because it is more comfortable, it can help to ease patient anxiety. A light, steady, syringe- like pressure applied to the base of the bottle is all it takes.
Once EZ CARE has been administered, the small, fully collapsed bottle is optimum for more efficient waste disposal. EZ CARE Adult Phosphate Enemas come with a prelubricated tip for gentle insertion, a specially designed shield to prevent contamination, an antiflux valve to control flow and prevent leakage, and clear, concise directions printed on each prepackaged unit.
For more information on the many benefits of EZ CARE Enemas, please write TR Associates, Medical Care Products Division, 5657 Gray Street, Arvada, Colorado, 80002; or call 1-800-621-8385, Ext 873.
Odor Control Units
Now available from Marliss Industries are four models of odor control and air purification equipment. These units use a three-step system combining an ion generator, an oxygen activator, and a three-step filtration system to "treat" the air in a resident room, reception area, office, or other enclosure to eliminate odors as well as remove particulates such as pollen, cigarette smoke, bacteria, mildew, and dust from the air.
The output of the Marliss units quickly permeates the air throughout a room and oxidizes airborne, odor-producing molecules. Unlike systems that rely only on filtration or electrostatic air purification equipment, the Marliss system does not require that all of the air in the room pass through the unit to achieve purification. Consequently, for a given volume of air, the Marliss unit is much smaller, less expensive, and makes almost no noise during operation. The noise level is low enough to be used in a child's nursery or sick room.
The Marliss units are easy to use since no installation is required. The units simply plug into any standard 110volt AC outlet. Marliss odor control air purifiers produce noticeable results in less than one hour. They are ideal for homes with odors from incontinent patients, smoke, stale air, and cooking. The Marliss units clean the air and provide a more pleasant environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

The patented Ray-Marshall Catheter Shield eliminates the trauma of adhesive tape removal during daily dressing changes around Hickman, Hickman-Broviac and other indwelling catheter entry sites for bone marrow transplant and cancer patients undergoing intensive chemotherapy.
Designed to reduce discomfort for long-term patients during dressing changes, the patented shield reduces irritation of tissue surrounding the catheter entry by elevating the catheter pivot point to approximately V% inch above the skin surface.
The Ray-Marshall Catheter Shield has been effective in maintaining infection free catheter entry sites on hundreds of patients both in conjunction with gauze IV pads placed around the catheter or with the shield alone.
