Abstract

Transparent Wheelchair Tray

The improved model WT60-A " VisiTray" for wheelchairs by "Raymo" is constructed of clear, nonbreakable polycarbonate material and is stocked in two sizes to fit desk-arm or full-arm wheelchair models, or leisure chairs. The trays provide the complete seethrough visibility so necessary in many cases for safe mobility, and include a raised polished aluminum retainer rim on three outer sides. The contoured oval body cutout provides ease of body movement and greater comfort in use.

The stock tray size, 24 in. wide x 19 in. deep (49 cm x 62 cm), fits most chairs, but the 22 in. -wide tray is appropriate for narrower chairs. Because of the unique rigid construction, it weighs only 33? lb (1 .65 kg), so it is very easy to handle. AU trays are easily attached by their Velcro® straps, which fasten securely around the arm of the chair.

Supine Bather

The Silcraft Corporation, developer of The Bather, has introduced a Supine Bather to its line of bathing equipment for the elderly and the physically handicapped.

The Supine Bather is constructed of attractive, almond-colored, reinforced acrylic and features high-volume fastfill. Its temperature- and pressure-sensitive mixing valve assures absolute temperature control. It comes equipped with a pulsating shower wand for gentle spot massage. The Supine Bather has an effective built-in hydrotherapy system with four whirlpool jets and double aeration. It also features an innovative, economical disinfecting system.

The nonmechanical disinfecting system uses no complicated valves or backflushing. It is simple to operate and uses less disinfectant than other systems. The Supine Bather also has a built-in locking cabinet for safe, convenient storage of chemicals and other bathing or hygiene aids.

The Supine Bather is specifically designed to work with The Traverse, Silcraft's battery-operated mobile patient transporter. The Traverse can convert from stretcher to seat for maximum versatility.

It uses a smooth, ball bearing screw drive for outstanding stability and reliability. The Supine Bather will also work with other transporters.

The unit is equipped with a vacuumbreaker to prevent any backflow into the potable water supply. Convenient bottle holders permit clean, easy dispensing of soap, shampoo, and other bath additives.

Two Traverse models are available. The Traverse/ Alpha is equipped with a stretcher that converts to a seat. Additional options such as low-boy seat may be purchased separately to provide maximum versatility. The Traverse/ Beta, featuring a fabric sling harness, is especially designed for use with The Silcraft Bather 2001 and for general patient transfer.

Both models feature ball bearing screw drive for smooth, stable lifting, dependable operation, and less maintenance. A rechargeable battery and cord are included with each unit. Dualwheel, locking swivel casters assure easy, safe maneuverability. Silcraft also offers several stationary patient-transfer units.

With the introduction of a disposable fitted brief for use with persons suffering heavy to complete loss of bladder control, Kimberly-Clark Corporation now offers a complete line of quality disposable products specially designed to help manage incontinence.

The company said Depend fitted briefs have elastic at the waist and legs and are designed for leakage protection, convenience of use, and comfort. The brief has refastenable tabs to help ensure a secure fit and contains absorbent material that will not bunch or break down when wet. The product is available in two sizes: regular for hip/ waist measurements up to 41 in., and large, for measurements from 42 to 52 in.

In addition to the new fitted brief, there is a discreet, form-fitting undergarment for moderate to heavy incontinence and shields for light to moderate incontinence. Kimberly-Clark has developed an assessment program on incontinence designed specifically for pharmacists. The program was prepared in collaboration with the American Pharmaceutical Association and offers continuing education credits.

Advanced Potassium Formulation

Key Pharmaceuticals, Ine, introduces K-Dur™ 20 (potassium chloride) Microburst Release System™, a new potassium tablet for the prevention and treatment of hypokalemia. Hypokalemia is a potentially serious condition of abnormally low potassium serum levels that affects millions. Patients on diuretic therapy are at highest risk of developing hypokalemia. Other less frequent causes of hypokalemia include vomiting, diarrhea, and laxative abuse.

K-Dur 20 delivers twice the potassium of other oral controlledrelease potassium tablets. This means patients can take fewer tablets per day or can switch from unpleasant-tasting liquid potassium preparations.

Even at twice the strength of other potassium tablets, K-Dur 20 has been shown safe in endoscopic studies. The unique Microburst Release System enables the K-Dur 20 tablet to disperse immediately into minute, sustainedaction particles, which are distributed over a wide surface area in the stomach. Potassium chloride is then slowly released. This process helps minimize the incidence of gastric irritation.

Medication Delivery System

R.J. Wolfe introduces the Medication Delivery System, comprised of a medication tray, medication cards, and wall rack. The Medication Delivery System economically provides a convenient, unambiguous medication control system.

Use of the system is straightforward: Simply record, on a separate medication card for each patient, the patient's daily medication requirements. Then, file the cards in the wall rack according to time of first medication. Remove the cards from the rack and insert them into the medication tray, and then place the appropriate medications on the tray with the cards.

The standard 30-cup model medication tray securely holds various sizes of medicine cups and syringes. Because many patients require multiple medications, each slot on the tray can hold up to eight medication cards.

A 24-hour schedule is imprinted on each medication card, and space is provided for special patient instructions. Night hours are shaded, making reading easy, thereby minimizing time errors. The padded, PA in. x 2?? in. cards are available in eight color-coded combinations, including plain white or color-flagged in blue, gray, green, orange, pink, red, and yellow. The cards are available in either am-pm or international time formats.

The wall rack, which enables all medications for numerous patients to be organized and scheduled, completes the system.
