Health Assessment of the Older Adult

Carol J Dall, RN, MS, GNP

Abstract

Health Assessment of the Older Adult. Eliopoulos. Menlo Park, CA, Addison- Wesley Publishing Co, 1984, 289 pages, $12.95.

Recently, there seems to have been a flourish of new physical assessment books on the market for nurses. In Health Assessment of the Older Adult, the focus is on differentiating the assessment findings from normal features of aging versus pathology. Descriptions of physiologic and anatomic changes that accompany aging are included.

Ms. Eliopoulos stresses that the mere reading of this text doe's not make a nurse practitioner. However, techniques for examination are included that (with practice and guidance) would allow a nurse to conduct a comprehensive assessment.

Compared to other books available to nurses, this book should be considered for purchase. For a mere $12.95, this book is a must for gerontological nurses.…
