A new oxygen-conserving delivery device has been developed which can save patients on home oxygen therapy thousands of dollars a year in what they spend on oxygen. The "Oxymizer" oxygen-conserving device provides oxygen saturation levels equivalent to those achieved with a standard nasal cannula at as little as one-quarter the flow rate.
Clinical evaluations have demonstrated that the Oxymizer, at a flow rate of 0.5 liter/minute, provided the same oxygen saturation as a standard cannula at 2 liters/minute. At a flow rate of 2.0 liters/minute, the Oxymizer provides an equivalent benefit of 4.0 liters/minute through a standard cannula.
Patients using the Oxymizer with portable oxygen systems can be away from their primary oxygen source two or three times longer, or can use smaller, lighter- weight portable tanks.
The Oxymizer is available from Chad Therapeutics Inc., in Woodland Hills, Calif. More information is available by calling (818) 888-5870.
Health Enterprises has introduced "Call For Help," an emergency Medical Alert Alarm System. The system provides protection for senior citizens, people living alone, chronically ill, or handicapped people. There is no installation cost, no monthly service contracts, and has a 90-day warranty.
The protected person carries a small 2×2 battery operated wireless signaller which has a low-battery warning light. When the signaller is activated by a press of a button, it transmits a signal over 200 feet to the plug-in alarm located in another part of the home or at a neighbor's. When the alarm is activated by the signal, it continues its loud attention-getting sound until reset. "Call For Help. " For more information contact: Health Enterprises, Inc., 15 Spruce Street, North Attleboro, MA 02760.
The Cheney Company announced the introduction of two new stair lifts - the Liberty Lift I and the Liberty Lift II.
Liberty Lifts offer easy, safe stairway access to people of all ages who have trouble getting up and down stairs.
The Lifts use a unique cog-drive system which provides safe, nearly maintenance-free operation. When not in use, the Cheney Liberty Lifts fold snugly out of the way, allowing easy stair accessibility to others. The chair rides sideways allowing a full view of the stairs and the low profile design accommodates wheelchair transfers. Both lifts feature an 18" upholstered seat, a padded, flip-up arm with fingertip controls and a fold-down footrest. The Liberty Lift II also has a swivel seat for easy exiting at top landings.
