Healthmark Industries Company announces the availability of two styles of plastic locks; the Snap-Lok (bottomhalf of picture) and the Loop-Lok. These locks are often-times used on "crash" carts and emergency-type containers.
Hospitals, nursing homes, and paramedics have the need for a simple, easyto-use method to alert them to a previous-use, tampering or unauthorized handling of confidential and/or restricted material. A broken seal indicates previous-use, or tampering. A broken lock cannot be re-sealed.
Both style locks are a one-piece design, and made of strong rust-andcorrosion proof plastic. The one-piece design eliminates the cost, loss, and inventory problems associated with the two-piece metal style locks.
They are "broken" open quickly, simply and safely, in many instances under critical situations. The SnapLoks are "snapped" open easily by breaking the lock at its specially designed scored section. The LoopLoks are opened by a simple tug on the loop at the dome section, breaking open the lock. The Snap-Loks are available in red, green, and blue, numbered as well as unnumbered. The overall measurement of the lock is ½″ × 7/8″.
A new visually-read reagent strip test that represents a breakthrough in blood glucose monitoring for diabetes, has been announced by the Ames Division of Miles Laboratories.
Called Visidex II Reagent Strips, it is the first visually-read blood glucose test that can be blotted using any brand of facial tissue or wiped off by using any type of cotton ball to remove excess blood.
"Visidex II strips can be particularly useful at nursing stations, in nursing homes and other health care facilities where a fast, convenient and cost-effective visual test is needed to give reliable semi-quantitative blood glucose readings in patients," said JM Bolero, MD, Vice President, Medical Affairs, and Senior Medical Officer, Professional Products Division of Ames.
"To use Visidex II Reagent Strips, the only equipment needed is a bottle of strips, a finger-pricking device, lancets, and a supply of facial tissues or cotton balls, which are usually found in patient rooms in most hospitals and other health care institutions."
Dr. Botero stated that the testing equipment will fit in a roomy uniform pocket and can be stored, when not in use, in a drawer at the nursing station.
"Using Visidex II strips on patients can increase nursing care efficiency and save time and laboratory costs," he said.
The new Ames test strip is the fastest and easiest to use of the visually-read blood glucose test strips, according to Dr. Botero. The entire test takes two minutes.
