Registered nurses can update their knowledge of geriatric nursing in an audio-cassette course developed by the University of Wisconsin-Extension's Department of Nursing.
Geriatric Nursing I discusses the normal aging process and the nursing care of patients with selected illnesses. Specific topics include: an overview of aging; physical assessment of the elderly; care of the confused elderly; care of the arthritic elderly, and care of the elderly with cerebrovascular accident.
Course packets with cassettes and printed material can be purchased for $52. A group that plans to study together can purchase one packet with tapes and printed material, with each member buying only the printed material for $27 each. Geriatric Nursing I is the first of an anticipated series of IJW-Extension courses on geriatric nursing.
