Coping Behaviors and Nursing. LaRetta M. Garland and Carol T. Bush. Virginia: Prentice-Hall Company, 1982, 213 pages.
This supplemental text provides a biophysical-psychosocial theoretical approach to the conceptualization of coping behaviors and related nursing interventions. It clearly and logically delineates the characteristics of coping behaviors and related concepts. Case studies illustrate aspects of nursing assessment and models of nursing interventions ranging from counseling techniques to therapeutic exercises.
The text also addresses application of the content to the educational and nurse-to-nurse consultation processes. Due to a dirth of studies directly focusing on the coping concept, the authors provide a challenge for future research in this salient area.
