Wright Medical Group highlights innovations in orthopedics at the AAOS Annual Meeting
Wright Medical Group N.V. announced it will highlight recent innovations at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons 2019 Annual Meeting, according to a press release from the company.
“We have continued to expand our best-in-class upper extremities product portfolio to meet the needs of orthopedic surgeons and patients and further enhance our leadership position in the fast-growing upper extremities market,” Robert Palmisano, president and CEO of the Wright Medical Group, said in the release.
The company will showcase its new Revive revision shoulder system, reportedly the market’s first dedicated shoulder revision system. According to the release, the system provides surgeons with specialized extraction instruments for implant removal and a humeral prosthesis for achieving successful joint reconstruction. It is expected to be launched in the United States in the first half of 2019.
Other products at the meeting include the Perform reversed glenoid, which is shaped for patients with challenging glenoid anatomy; Blueprint 3-D case planning software; and the Simpliciti shoulder system, which is designed to minimize bone removal and soft tissue disruption.
The company also highlighted the Cartiva synthetic cartilage implant, which according to the release is the first new articulating surface material to receive FDA premarket approval in 18 years. The implant is indicated for arthritis at the base of the great toe.
The company will also feature its new Prostep minimally invasive surgery system. With 8 years of clinical history and more than 50,000 cases performed worldwide, Prostep was designed by foot and ankle surgeons specifically for minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery.
Additionally, the company will be showcasing the Invision total ankle revision system and the Prophecy preoperative navigation system. Comprised of Wright’s Inbone and Infinity Total Ankle Systems, the Invision combines a low-profile tibial implant design with a resurfacing talar component designed for full fluoroscopic visualization. The Prophecy preoperative navigation system combines computer imaging and the patient’s own CT scan data to create patient-specific alignment guides for use during surgery.
