Smith & Nephew names new chief executive officer
Smith & Nephew announced Namal Nawana has been appointed CEO of Smith & Nephew.
According to a press release, he will join Smith & Nephew and be appointed to the board as an executive director on May 7, 2018.
Nawana, former worldwide president of DePuy Synthes Spine, will succeed Olivier Bohuon, who is scheduled to step down from the board on May 7.
Nawana most recently was CEO of Alere Inc., which he joined in 2012 as chief operating officer. Before that he was at Johnson & Johnson for more than 15 years, during which time he mostly worked in its medical devices and diagnostics segment and held various corporate leadership roles across markets in Asia and Europe.
“In Namal I am delighted that we have secured an exceptional new chief executive with a proven record within the medical device industry,” Roberto Quarta, chairman of Smith & Nephew, said in the release. “He has the experience as a CEO of a major listed company in the health care sector, and has demonstrated that he can energize businesses to deliver better performance and greater value to shareholders. We are looking forward to him joining our board and driving Smith & Nephew to the next level of success.”
