ATLANTA – Peter Veldman, MD, presented a special session on corneal transplantation here at SECO, urging optometrists to learn about all surgical options to direct the patient, “who’s looking to you for guidance,” he said, to the right surgeon who will tailor the appropriate procedure to that patient’s condition.

Corneal collagen cross-linking is an important tool to prevent patients with ectasia from further progression and the need for transplantation. “We’d like to keep people out of the operating room whenever possible,” he said.
