Founding member and president of the Optometric Society, Lisa Shin OD, announced that she has submitted her resignation and is leaving the organization.

Shin told Primary Care Optometry News that the Optometric Society (TOS) lacked the “unifying bond of fighting board certification that was the heartbeat of the American Optometric Society.”

She said: “The power of the grassroots will go down in optometry's history. But it's time to put away the spirit of hostility and acrimony that hurts and divides our profession.”

She also addressed the American Optometric Association: “Splinter groups form when you do not adequately represent and serve the interests of your members. You are the voice for optometry. Only you can effectively fight for us.”

Shin said she was honored to serve the TOS and does “not regret the friends made and the lessons learned over the past year.”
