Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has topped U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of best hospitals for ophthalmology for the 14th consecutive year.

This marks the 16th time the University of Miami-based institution was named at the top of the list since the publication first began its rankings 28 years ago.

“Our patients inspire Bascom Palmer’s superb team of 1,200 doctors, scientists, nurses, ophthalmic technicians and support staff to excel in patient care, vision research, education and surgical innovation,” Eduardo C. Alfonso, MD, chairman of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, said in a press release. “Ensuring personalized, exceptional care for each of our patients is our priority. The fact that ophthalmologists from around the country recognize us as the best in the nation again and again is a great honor.”

More than 4,500 medical centers from across the country were surveyed to create this year’s lists of best hospitals, according to a press release from U.S. News & World Report. Patient safety, quality of nursing, patient experience, volume, and survival and readmission rates were among the criteria compared.
