Ellex Medical Lasers will begin U.S. distribution of its proprietary selective laser trabeculoplasty technology immediately, according to a news release.

The launch comes after the expiration of a patent that prevented sales of the technology in the United States.

Ellex will offer the Solo SLT laser for glaucoma treatment, as well as the Tango SLT/YAG combination laser system, which allows operators to switch from SLT to photodisruptor mode, the release said.

A patent held by Massachusetts General Hospital prevented Ellex from selling the device within the United States. The company has a 40% market share internationally, Ellex CEO Tom Spurling said in the release.
