Using data to improve quality, develop new relationships
AUSTIN, Texas — In this exclusive video perspective from GI Outlook 2018, Colleen M. Schmitt, MD, MHS, FASGE, president of the Galen Medical Group in Chattanooga, Tennessee, discusses her presentation about how to use the GIQuIC database to improve quality and grow new relationships.
“We’ve used our data to grow our practice internally from a quality standpoint,” she told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. “As we’ve added new physicians to the practice, we’ve been able to look at their data both on adenoma detection rate, as well as call-backs and scheduling opportunities, and find out ways we can improve their benchmarks.”
She said the data have also been an invaluable tool in helping develop new relationships and create new opportunities both at the practice and in the hospital.
“We’ve tried to teach our patients about quality,” she said. “Then we’ve gone to our pairs with our quality data to see if we could develop new relationships about how we go about screening their patients who need screening for colorectal cancer.”
