CHICAGO — In this video perspective, Vince Bertucci, MD, discusses research he presented at the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery annual meeting on Kybella treatment for men.

Bertucci, a dermatologist in the Toronto area and president of the Canadian Dermatology Association, and colleagues conducted post-hoc analysis of 156 men (15.3% of the total patient population) from two phase 3 trials of patients with moderate to severe submental fat who received either Kybella (deoxycholic acid, Allergan) or placebo.

Bertucci said that men are less interested in overall aesthetics but instead focus on two specific areas: their hair and their jawline and chin.

“They’d like to have a nice, straight chin with a nice angle that makes them look masculine,” he told Healio.com.

He also said that the percentage of men involved in the phase 3 studies was higher than what is usually seen in an aesthetic dermatology practice, showing a specific male interest in Kybella treatment.
