Brigham and Women’s Hospital has announced that Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, will be the first executive director of its Interventional Cardiovascular Programs effective Dec. 1, 2013.

Bhatt, who is Chief Medical Editor of Cardiology Today’s Intervention, is currently chief of cardiology at VA Boston Healthcare System, senior physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), as well as professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. He serves as co-chair of the REACH registry and CHAMPION trials, co-principal investigator of SAVOR-TIMI 53 and SYMPLICITY HTN-3, and chair of the American Heart Association – Get With The Guidelines Steering Committee.

According to a press release issued by BWH, in his new role as executive director, Bhatt will serve as principal director for the core and interdisciplinary programs within BWH Heart and Vascular Center, and will appoint and oversee a clinical operations leader of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (CCL). He will also oversee the Structural Heart Disease Program and integrate evolving interdisciplinary programs, directing strategy, quality of patient care, operations and implementation of clinical policies within the CCL, bringing diverse specialties together to help transform heart and vascular care at BWH, among other responsibilities.
