Fresenius Kidney Care and DaVita Kidney Care have activated emergency protocols for patients who live in areas impacted by Hurricane Florence and will require dialysis treatment during and after the storm.
The dialysis provider currently has fuel, generators, trucks, water and supplies on route to its facilities in affected areas, according to a statement from the company. Fresenius Kidney Care is providing its patients with emergency kits and scheduling early treatments for those in need at the company’s 340 clinics in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. Fresenius Kidney Care centers will be aiding patients regardless of their dialysis treatment provider.
DaVita Kidney Care’s emergency response plan focuses on proactive dialysis treatment for patients at its 300 care centers in the region, according to a company press release. The company is sharing evacuation details with dialysis recipients and coordinating their continued care with other health care providers. Along with tracking where patients will be transferred for care, DaVita will reportedly communicate with local teams to ensure the safety of its patients. In addition to patients’ emergency kits, DaVita recommends patients include emergency phone numbers for doctors and alternate dialysis centers; for patients with diabetes, a week’s worth of supplies; and at least 3 days’ worth of food.
