Target Audience

The intended audience for the activity is ophthalmologists and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with ocular disorders.

Learning Objectives: General Sessions

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Examine new techniques and technology in cataract surgery such as intraoperative imaging, IOL exchange and power calculations, and the use of accommodating, presbyopic, and light adjustable lens.
  • Review complex cases and complications management in cataract and refractive surgery.
  • Summarize practice pearls in premium and toric IOL implantation and state-of-the-science cataract surgical techniques and the latest evidence-based recommendations.
  • Evaluate state-of-the-science astigmatism management as it relates to preoperative measurements, corneal conditions, use of toric IOLs, limbal relaxing incisions, and enhancements.
  • Review the safety and efficacy of new pharmacologic agents approved for use in ophthalmic conditions and diseases.
  • Analyze the safety and efficacy of new or refined strategies for managing corneal health, including: evidence-based dosing regimens for anti-infective and anti-inflammatory drugs in cataract and refractive surgery and the rationale behind them, the latest advances in treating corneal disease, and the latest evidence on the treatment of dry eye and ocular allergy.
  • Evaluate new evidence on corneal-based and lens-based refractive surgery, including surface ablation, LASIK, SMILE, crosslinking, refractive indexing, and other innovations.
  • Assess new evidence and applications for the use of telemedicine, imaging, as well as the medical and surgical management of retinal vascular disorders.
  • Review the latest medical and surgical advances in glaucoma and their efficacy in reducing progression of disease.
  • Examine how new practice management services and shared decision-making approaches, integrated into the daily office flow, can better serve patients.
