Abstract

Puberty and its disorders, diabetes mellitus and its complications as well as devices to aid in monitoring and delivering insulin, the mechanism of childhood obesity, indications for growth hormone therapy in children, and polycystic ovary syndrome are all important pediatric endocrine topics that are included in Pediatric Annals this month. Clearly a central feature linking several of these topics, such as polycystic ovary syndrome, obesity and diabetes, is the metabolic syndrome in which these features are associated with insulin resistance and lipid accumulation in liver, pancreas, and muscle.
