Nancy Heinemann is an artist and writer in San Francisco, California. For several years she volunteered at a large assisted living facility spending time with older adults, some of whom have Alzheimer’s disease. She established the Visiting Companion Service for Seniors, providing “companionship, tea, and conversation,” as well as outings, accompaniment to appointments, and respite for family members. She also works part-time in the Activities Department at The Sequoias–San Francisco, a life care community for seniors. Her artwork can be seen at
