VIDEO: Updated testosterone replacement guideline includes benefits, concerns of therapy

CHICAGO — In this video exclusive, Tamara Wexler, MD, PhD, neuroendocrinologist and reproductive endocrinologist, and clinical assistant professor in the department of rehabilitation medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York, reviews highlights of male reproductive endocrinology and testosterone research presented at the Endocrine Society Annual Meeting.

The society’s recently released updated guideline on testosterone replacement therapy affirms that therapy does have an effect on libido, sexual function and sexual activity, but not on mood or energy level. Wexler outlines issues of concern and methods for ensuring that a patient is truly hypogonadal before treating with testosterone.
