The American Diabetes Association announced it will offer a free program to patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, according to a press release.
The 12-month program, Living with Type 2 Diabetes, will provide information and offer guidance to assist in the learning curve of diabetes management and treatment. Participants can receive recipes, tips and reminders online, via traditional mail or on their phones.
“The moment of diagnosis is a moment of crisis for many people,” Lurelean Gaines, RN, MSN, president of health care and education for the ADA, said in the release. “Even for those who are already familiar with the disease, getting that diagnosis brings on a lot of different emotions ranging from anger, guilt, stress and a sense of loss. This program offers a starting point for someone newly diagnosed.”
Patients can enroll in this program by visiting www.diabetes.org/type2program or calling 1-800-DIABETES. There is also an option to text for more information, available in both English and Spanish.
