VIDEO: Creative moonlighting can offer diabetes educators opportunities to supplement income

SAN DIEGO — In this video exclusive, Endocrine Today Diabetes in Real Life columnist Susan Weiner, MS, RDN, CDE, CDN, speaks with Gary Scheiner, MS, CDE, owner and clinical director of Integrated Diabetes Services, about “moonlighting.”

They describe places to start for diabetes educators who are working full-time to generate some extra cash or simply to challenge themselves.

Scheiner lists book and magazine publishers, both print and online, as sources of writing opportunities for educators with topics they are passionate about. Other venues are corporations that need the expertise of diabetes educators in developing products for diabetes; helping with marketing research, product development and education tools; and training patients to use their products, Scheiner said.
