VIDEO: Patients with acute aortic dissection helped by endovascular stent graft

LAS VEGAS — In this video, Ali Azizzadeh, MD, discusses the 3-year results of a study of a thoracic stent graft for treatment of patients with acute complicated type B aortic dissection.

The study enrolled 50 patients with acute complicated type B aortic dissection in 16 centers across the United States.

Patients showed no complications from placement of the device (Valiant Captiva, Medtronic) and at 3 years, the freedom from all-cause mortality was 79.4% and freedom from dissection-related mortality was 90%, Azizzadeh, from Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute, Houston, said.

“These results represent significant improvements compared to open surgical repair in patients with acute complicated type B aortic dissection,” he said.
