MAINTENANCE OF REMISSION IN ULCERATIVE COLITIS The goals of treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) are first to reduce the colon inflammation responsible for the gastrointestinal symptoms, and second to establish a medical program that will keep the inflammation in remission so the patient will maintain a normal or near-normal bowel pattern.
