The widespread use of cross-sectional imaging has led to the increased recognition and awareness of pancreatic cysts. It is becoming increasingly clear that these cysts are not rare; the incidence of cystic pancreatic lesions ranges from 20% in necropsy studies to 0.7% to 1% among patients undergoing computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
