KEY POINTS Omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, and vitamin D have protective effects against cancer.1 Zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) play a beneficial role against cancer.2 The effect of folic acid supplementation in cancer is controversial.3 Vitamin A supplementation has no beneficial effects and may be harmful. The role of antioxidants and micronutrients (ie, folic acid, selenium, and omega-3 fatty acids) in cancer is coming under increasing scrutiny.4,
