Alcoholic hepatitis is a severe form of liver disease seen in approximately 30% of heavy drinkers and can have mortality rates of 30% to 50%. Several scoring systems currently exist to identify patients with more severe disease and a higher risk of death. DF score greater than 32 indicates severe alcoholic hepatitis and has a 50% mortality rate; this is the threshold at which corticosteroid treatment should be initiated.
