Chapter 16: Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (continued)

Eun Ji Shin, MD

Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) refers to endoscopic removal of the GI mucosa. This technique is used to treat patients with dysplasia and early superficial cancer confined to the mucosa layer. The most common techniques of EMR are strip biopsy, double-snare polypectomy, and resection using a cap and the Cook Medical Duette Multi-Band Mucosectomy (Cook Medical Inc). The following is an abbreviated explanation of each method: Figure 16-1. Endoscopic technique of strip biopsy.
