Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD) is an obstruction to the flow of bile or pancreatic juice through the sphincter of Oddi. It can occur after inflammation or due to an increased muscular contraction. Biliary and pancreatic manometry refers to the manometric measurement of sphincter of Oddi pressure. This procedure is currently considered the “gold standard” for the diagnosis of SOD.
